What locations can I shoot?

I started researching what different locations I could shoot for this project because I wanted to find locations that I could actually go to and that I had access to. I started looking in England first and I could also go to Belgium because I usually am there in weekends or in holidays. Following are the locations I found that could be interesting to shoot around:

  • Warwick Castle - Near my house - Easy to go
  • Bodiam Castle - 4h 49min drive from my house
  • Dover Castle - 3h from my house - Planned to shoot it on my way to Belgium but it got too dark and was impossible to shoot anything in those lighting conditions.
  • Bamburgh Castle - 3h from my house - Good location to shoot
  • Scarborough Castle - 3h from my house - Good location to shoot with seaview
  • York castle - 3h from my house - Near Scarborough Castle
  • Grand place - In Belgium - 15min from my house - Great lighting/environment to shoot in
These are a few places that I have found to shoot that looked nice according to me. I hope I can at least shoot 2 of them and apart from them I will also be shooting any old buildings that I will find around in my area or wherever I go.

Louise Bellin - Castles

Louise Bellin is also one of the many photographers that have shot old buildings/castles. I loved watching her work because looking at her work you can tell how much effort she has put in to notice every single detail going on in the frame. I love the locations she has chosen and she has used amazing angles to make the castles/buildings look even more interesting. I am definitely going to look at her work while I shoot mine because I am sure it will help me more to think about how to take my images. I will also try to find good locations because it does make a big difference to the end result. There are a lot of castles around, but I want to choose the best ones out of all of them. Following are the few images out of my favourites by her.

Tony Howell - Castles

Tony Howell is a British photographers that is mostly known for his landscape work and is based in Bristol. I liked his photographs of castles which is why I am posting him here. He has taken photographs of many castles in the UK. He has written many books during his career and his images have appeared on many media including calendars, magazines, on BBC, in Hollywood movies, billboards, brochures, catalogs, greeting cards, posters, post cards, websites, national newspapers and many more. He is also a teacher around Bristol. He has many clients including the BBC, Royal Mail, The Tate, The National Trust, Penguin Books, Unicef, etc. Following are a few images by him that I really liked. The inspired me to find nice castles in the country that I could photograph.

Tim Loveless

As I am soon planning to shoot some castles as well, I decided to research into historical buildings as well and found this photographer called Tim Loveless. He has shot some historical old buildings in Lebanon that I really liked. My favourite ones are the ones where the sky looks really dark compared to the main 'object' in the frame. Following is a link with the images.

Niki Feijen

I found an article online about a photographer called Niki Feijen and she has shot abandoned places from inside. I know that is not exactly what I am doing but it does go with the theme that I have chosen. She has taken images of very beautiful places that got abandoned years ago but still look very lively in a way because of all the stuff still being there. The blankets are still made, the chairs, beds and everything is still on its place. Even a coat hanging above a door. It just looks to me like some family just went somewhere and never came back into their house for some reason and all the furniture and everything else has just been there since then and never been touched. I really love the last image where the shoes of a person are still there on the floor in front of the sofa. It still looks like someone is still living there and will come back very soon for their stuff.

My shoot

After researching, I started taking a few shots around of buildings to try out my effect on Photoshop. Some of the following images have been taken in London and some of them in Coventry. I quite like the white building shot that I have take at the fashion weekend in London. I will be shooting more images soon. I am planning to go shoot some castles in Scarborough which is in Yorkshire. I am just waiting for the whether to get better so I can get better results.

This photograph has been taken in London when I went there for London fashion weekend. As I was shooting building for this project, I thought I should click some shots around there of different buildings that I could see around me.

This is also one of the London shots that I have taken and the next one as well. I really like how I have captured the plane right above the building. I think I will be using one of those two images as one of my final ones because it is one of my favourites so far.

Old building

I could not find out the name of the photographer that has taken the following image but I thought it had to post it. This is because it is exactly what I am going to try to achieve with my own images. I want my images in black & white as well and I want them to look like something that people might see in a dream. I also want to blur my images slightly to give a sense of being lost and not knowing what is happening.
